Telemetry: what NetSendo may send, and only if you allow it

NetSendo can send NetSendo PSA one anonymous usage report a day. It is off by default: nothing is sent until the administrator of an installation switches it on, and it can be switched off at any time. The reports tell us which versions, plans and features are in use, so we know what to fix and what to build first.

In short

  • Opt-in. Available from NetSendo 2.6.0, off until an administrator turns it on under Settings → Telemetry (or sets NETSENDO_TELEMETRY=true).
  • Anonymous. The installation is identified only by a random id created when telemetry is switched on. It is not derived from your domain, licence key, email or any account.
  • Ranges, not numbers. Counts are sent as ranges (0, 1-10, 11-100, 101-1k, 1k-10k, 10k-100k, 100k-1m, 1m+). No contact, email address, message, list name, domain or host name is ever sent.
  • See before you agree. The settings page shows the exact report your installation would send.
  • Only to NetSendo. Reports go to https://netsendo.com/api/telemetry, not to Google or any other analytics service. The IP address is not stored with a report; it is used only for a short-lived, hashed rate limit.
  • Off means deleted. Switching telemetry off stops the reports and asks our server to delete every report of that installation id. Reports are otherwise kept for 400 days.
  • Once a day, by the scheduler NetSendo already runs, in an hour derived from the installation id so that installations do not all report at once. A failed send waits for the next day and never affects your installation. php artisan netsendo:telemetry --show prints the report without sending it.

Every field of the report (schema 1)

Besides the sections below, a report carries schema (the format version) and instance_id (the random installation id). The server stores only the fields listed here and drops anything else.

Questions

The code that builds the report is in the NetSendo repository (app/Services/Telemetry), so you can check it. Write to contact@netsendo.com with your installation id (shown on the settings page) if you want its reports deleted by hand.
